Morne Fortune

Morne Fortune is has a vast concentration of St. Lucia’s history.

It’s an old war fort, but ironically, It’s also known as the “Hill of Good Luck.”

The French army originally built Morne Fortune during its battles for St. Lucia with the British army.

The British army captured the fort for the first time in 1796.

The fort changed ownership serval times between the French and British army throughout the 14 wars to claim St. Lucia.

From Morne Fortune, you will also get the most beautiful view of the city of Castries, St. Lucia’s north and even the island of Martinique on a clear day.

 

The City of Castries

Visit the Castries Market, where you will be immersed in St. Lucian culture.

At the Castries market, you can get to taste unique fruits, vegetables, and spices if you desire.

 

We’ll tour around the Derek Walcott Square named after one of St. Lucia’s Nobel Prize winners.

The Dereck Walcott square is a significant location in the city where many cultural activities take place.

 

Visit the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, aka the Cathedral.

This church is one of the oldest most well-preserved pieces of historical architecture in the Caribbean.

Inside you’ll see beautiful glass murals that were created when the church was built far back in St. Lucia’s history.

 

Pigeon Island National Park

At Pigeon Island National Park you’ll relive more of the story behind St. Lucia’s fascinating history

Pigeon Island has the remnants of old war barracks and massive cannons from the battles between the British and the French.

The park is well maintained and also makes for an ideal location to have a picnic.

You can choose to take the hike to the top of Fort Rodney, where you’ll experience the best views of St. Lucia’s most northern part.

Or,

You can choose to lounge on the lovely white sand beach near the park.

We’ll then head to Rodney Bay where there are lots of restaurants and places to shop for that perfect St. Lucia memento.
